Drawing inspiration from the Art Deco movement, the architectural story unfolds with a captivating interplay of form, materiality, and lighting, creating a harmonious coexistence of the past, present and the future.
Tucked away amidst the sprawling wilderness, this contemporary prodigy exudes an air of mystery – reminiscent of a Bond villain’s secret lair perched on the top of a hill. Its sleek, curved design seamlessly merges with the undulating terrain, whilst providing protection and seclusion. Beneath its elegant exterior lies a realm of modern opulence. Anchored within Brigadoon’s undulating terrain, The House on the Hill resists the ordinary through a quiet yet deliberate assertion of presence. Poised between landscape and sky, its silhouette reads against the sweeping panorama of the Perth city skyline as a restrained emblem of architectural clarity. Informed by the sinuous rhythm of the native millipede, the form folds and extends through a sequence of measured gestures, fusing structure and inhabitation into one continuous motion. Precisely oriented, the architecture is drawn instinctively toward light, tracing a calibrated dialogue, where landscape, horizon, and inhabitation resolve as one, continuous and quietly monumental.
Distinguished by its sleek lines and understated façade, the design of this rural homestead elegantly conceals the captivating narrative within. The duality of architecture and nature is seamlessly intertwined, creating a harmonious dialogue between the built form and its organic surroundings. The unique silhouette of the home embraces a spinal typology with a series of different wings, with long light-filled corridors to its spine, and intermittent atrium spaces, each providing a private oasis within the larger sanctuary. Generous windows act as frames, capturing and presenting views of the tranquil landscape from every perspective, ensuring a constant connection to the serene environment.
Behind this striking black façade lies a uniquely bespoke, subdued and luxurious masterpiece. Take a stride through a gateway you won’t forget, as you step into a layer that can best be described as a bachelor’s ultimate residence. Enveloped in shear sophistication, we took cues from the most contemporary aesthetics, and married this with the palette that best suited the client’s lifestyle. The equation resulted in bold lines, dark colours and custom fittings to exude an acquired futuristic opulence.
Deep in the bushland of Yallingup a conversation takes place between the natural environment and the built form. The building disguises itself by mimicking two tree branches crossing one another, charred and burnt – highlighting the harshness of bushfires to the area. Its distinct form and dark materiality helps to juxtapose against the organic contours and vibrant colours of the landscape that it is encapsulated within. Its placement maintains a level of sensitivity to its natural surroundings by embedding into the landscape – serving an experiential duality of connection at the lower ground level and higher tree line.
A narrative of romanticised coastal embodiment – aged, fragmented, reclaimed and pieced together. A contest of tectonic quality and form celebrating the assemblage of raw and robust materiality – an interplay between contemporary construction and enduring architecture.
